Flats, heels, pumps, boots, sandals, sneakers…the list of shoe types goes on. Shoes have come a long way from the ancient days of strapping various materials to our feet and hoping for the best. These days some people go after shoes for comfort and arch support, while others go after them for style and status. There are tons of shoes out there with varying prices, sizes, colors, and designs, and all kinds of people feel the need to have as many as possible.
You may be or know someone who is crazy about shoes, but shoe collections among the circles of regular people are usually nothing compared to that of some well-known celebrities. Celebrities have weaknesses just like us, and for some celebrities, shoes are definitely one of those weaknesses. After our research, we came up with a list of 25 celebrity shoe collections that are completely out of this world. We also took a stab at determining what makes people buy so many shoes in the first place.
25 Celebrity Shoe Collection
Thought you knew someone with a serious shoe addiction? Whether they were A-list stars of the past or currently at the height of their fame, these celebrities put all other shoe collectors to shame. In case you were curious, below are the 25 celebrities (listed in alphabetical order) that have some of the craziest shoe collections known to mankind:
1. Paula Abdul
Perhaps best known these days as a judge from the hit TV show American Idol, Paula Abdul was at one time a pop music sensation at the top of her game during the late 1980s and early 1990s. With a petite stature of 5’, Paula makes up for her lack of height with a massive collection of high-heeled pumps and stilettos. We’re wondering if she uses a step ladder or a tall assistant to get to her shoes that almost touch the ceiling.
2. Christina Aguilera
This famous powerhouse singer dominated the music charts during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Today, Christina Aguilera has a shoe collection most high heel lovers would envy. Another pop star known to be of short stature, Aguilera’s shoe closet features a moveable ladder to help her get to the massive number of shoes and boots out of her reach. Aguilera’s shoe closet also features lots of pink, leopard print, and lush velvets, adding to her enigmatically chic diva persona.
3. Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba is perhaps one of the more down-to-earth celebrities on our list, but she still manages to claim rights to a sizable shoe collection. The mother of two confesses to having a thing for collecting shoes, and the full-to-bursting shoe shelves in her closet do a great job of proving it. From the looks of her closet, Alba enjoys wearing heels and ballet-type flats the most.
4. Chris Brown
Singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor Chris Brown became a superstar seemingly overnight after his first single “Run It!” topped the charts in record-breaking fashion during the mid-2000s. Brown has always been known among his friends and fans to be a huge sneakerhead. Standing in his closet—which is pretty much the size of a small warehouse—would likely blow the average bystander away, as he has so many fresh pairs of sneakers in the room that most of them cover the floor.
5. Nick Cannon
At one time, it seemed like Nick Cannon was everywhere—from topping the music charts with his 2003 self-titled album to starring in various hit movies and hosting TV shows, Cannon was a solid part of public conscience. His marriage to Mariah Carey in 2008 placed him even further in the celebrity spotlight. Like Carey, Cannon is a big shoe fan, and now that the couple is divorced Cannon keeps a mind-blowing shoe collection of his own. Take one look into his shoe closet and see how many fresh sneakers dominate the room.
6. Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey’s “Songbird Supreme” status is currently undisputed thanks to her five-octave vocal range and smash hit tunes from the 1990s and early 2000s. Carey is also well known for her diva tendencies and love of fashion, so we weren’t surprised when we came across photos of her stunning closet—which looks more like a shoe store for royalty. Carey’s shoe closet, complete with gold and marble-tiled floors and crystal chandeliers, features at least a thousand beautifully arranged heels and boots in nearly every shade imaginable.
7. Joan Crawford
This Oscar-winning actress, best known for her roles in hit films from the early 20th century, may have been one of the first Hollywood stars to kick off the shoe collecting phenomenon among celebrities. According to photos, Crawford’s closet was certainly big enough to hold an insane number of shoes. She was also known to never step out of her house unless she “looked like Joan Crawford the movie star,” so we think it’s safe to assume she took her shoe collection seriously.
8. Kaley Cuoco
American actress Kaley Cuoco has been in several movies and TV shows, but she is most famous for playing Bridget Hennessy on the ABC sitcom 8 Simple Rules from 2002 to 2005. Now that she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, there is no doubt of Cuoco’s status as a celebrity, and she has a shoe collection that makes that status even more unquestionable. Pumps, flats, sneakers, you name it—it’s all in Kaley’s massive shoe closet.
9. Miley Cyrus
This former wild-girl popstar has come a long way since her Disney days as Hannah Montana on the hit kids’ TV show with the same name. Miley Cyrus’s closet has a gothic-glam vibe going on, complete with hot pink walls, black vintage décor, and several towering black shelves filled with enough shoes to fill a decently-sized boutique.
Formerly a member of the chart-topping hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas, singer-songwriter Fergie is also known for her commercially successful solo album “The Dutchess,” which was released in 2006. Fergie doesn’t spend as much time in the spotlight these days, but when she does step out she usually has an amazing pair of heels or sneakers on. When looking at photos of Fergie’s closet, it’s plain to see she loves her shoe collection. We wouldn’t be surprised if she owned heels in every color imaginable.
11. Jennifer Hawkins
After becoming Miss Universe Australia and Miss Universe in 2004, Jennifer Hawkins’ popularity in the tabloids seemed to explode. Currently the host of Australia’s Next Top Model after beginning her own career as a fashion model, Hawkins developed a serious love for shoes. Her shoe closet features shelves built in to the walls, and each shelf is full-to-bursting with heels and flats in tons of colors.
12. Paris Hilton
One of the most famous socialites of the 21st century, Paris Hilton earned a reputation as an L.A. party girl throughout the early 2000s. Hilton was born into luxury and privilege, so it seems only natural for a socialite-turned-model and actress to have an extremely impressive shoe collection. Hilton’s closet features a crystal chandelier that illuminates her rows and rows of designer heels and flats. Most people would think they wandered into a women’s shoe store if they found themselves in Hilton’s closet.
13. Andre Iguodala
Perhaps best known as a small forward and shooting guard for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, professional ball player Andre Iguodala rocks his favorite shoes on and off the court—and according to his shoe closet, he’s got a lot of favorite shoes. 14. Kylie Jenner
It probably goes without saying that the woman on track to become the world’s youngest billionaire has more shoes than most of us could even imagine owning. Kylie Jenner, best known for her reality TV appearances on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and her frequently sold-out makeup line, is known to only sport the latest high-end sneakers or teetering stilettos, with nothing else in between. Today, John’s shoe closet is a gigantic collection of eccentric and fun designs that reflect the star’s personality.
16. Michael B. Jordan
It’s true that he shares a name with one of the most famous basketball players of all time, but Michael B. Jordan made his fortunes in acting. His most recent hit in the box office Black Panther made him one of the most recognizable actors of 2018. He may not be a ball player, but he’s still a huge fan of the sneakers that made his namesake a basketball legend. Jordan has said that he may own close to 100 pairs of Air Jordans.
17. Khloe Kardashian
It’s true that our article wouldn’t be complete without mentioning at least one more of the Kardashian-Jenner tribe. Khloe Kardashian, also famously featured on hit reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians is known for posting photos of her shoe-filled closet to social media. From what we’ve seen she has no shortage of Christian Louboutin, Gucci, and other high-end shoes. In fact, Khloe’s closet is so inspiring to other shoe lovers that photos of her closet have been featured in Elle Magazine.
18. DJ Khaled
Award-winning DJ and record producer DJ Khaled makes chart-topping music with some of the most trendsetting people on the planet, including Kanye West, Drake, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and more. Because he’s a superstar constantly surrounded by other superstars, it’s no surprise that DJ Khaled’s shoe collection is just as enormous as any other shoe-crazed celebrity. His shoe closet is somewhat reminiscent of a royal library, but instead of books, there are rows and rows of Air Jordans.
19. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is arguably one of the greatest athletes of all time, with a boxing record of 50 wins and zero losses highlighting his career. Mayweather is also one of the highest-paid athletes of all time, which is something he has never been shy about reminding people. The now-retired champion of the world collects a lot of expensive things, and shoes are no exception. Mayweather’s shoes are encased in a glass curio as if they were fine china. Each pair looks highly expensive, so the glass showcasing is definitely justified.
20. Chris Paul
Professional basketball player Chris Paul puts in a lot of work as president of the National Basketball Players Association and as point guard for the NBA’s Houston Rockets, but it seems that he puts almost as much work into his shoe collection as well. Paul is a huge fan of Air Jordans (no surprise there!), as fans can see from his social media posts of his multiple shelves packed with the immensely popular shoe. As one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, Chris Paul’s shoe collection appears to be directly proportional to his salary.
21. Kanye West
Kanye West is probably one of the most popular rappers of the 21st century, and he’s made a name for himself not just with his music and controversial views, but with his success in the fashion world as well. West has his own highly popular line of sneakers called Yeezy, but his personal shoe collection would blow your mind.
22. Oprah Winfrey
Most people know Oprah Winfrey as one of the most successful people in the world, thanks to her worldwide philanthropy and time served as America’s most popular TV show host on her daytime talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show. As one of the richest women in the world, it’s no surprise to us that Winfrey’s shoe collection is breathtaking at first sight. The media mogul has multiple homes, so imagine how many enormous shoe closets are in this star’s possession.
23. Serena Williams
One of the greatest tennis players and athletes of all time, Serena Williams naturally has an impressive collection of sneakers and other athletic footwear. Williams has been active in the tennis world for decades, giving her plenty of time to grow and fine-tune her crazy shoe collection. Photos of Williams’ closet show sneakers in every color as far as the eye can see. We wonder if Serena’s equally famous sister, Venus, has a shoe collection that’s just as extraordinary.
Zendaya made a name for herself as a Disney star in the hit sitcoms Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover, as well as through several movie roles. Today, the star has her own shoe line, Sole of Daya, which features a unique collection of fun and quirky heels. If Sole of Daya could be included in her personal shoe collection, it’s possible Zendaya would be the winner of the celebrity shoe obsession contest.
25. Rachel Zoe
Fashion icon Rachel Zoe knows a thing or two about shoes. After all, she’s been in the fashion business for nearly two decades and is one of the most recognizable fashion designers in the world. Zoe’s shoe collection is so intense, just looking at photos of her shoe closet is like looking at invitations to a massive shoe warehouse sale. From what we can tell, high heels are a favorite of hers—there must be at least 100 pairs of heels in the shoe closet photo posted on Zoe’s social media.
Conclusion: Does One Person Need So Many Shoes?
The answer to that question is largely up for debate. There are certainly members of society who could argue the need for a single person to have an extensive collection of shoes, and there are plenty of people who would argue the opposite. People who see the need for so many shoes may have a preoccupation with fashion and the fact that shoes are often the first thing people notice about one another. When it comes to celebrities having so many shoes, most of them have the financial means to collect hundreds, if not, thousands of shoes, so chances are that shoe-obsessed celebrities have justified their need to own lots and lots of shoes.
Another question to ask regarding the subject may be: What makes people buy so many shoes? The simplest answer may apply to people who are compulsive shoppers, otherwise known as shopping addicts. Whether the person is a compulsive shoe buyer or someone who is just a really big fan of shoes, large shoe collections could be a representation of what the shoe collector holds dearest to them or a representation of being part of a community of like-minded individuals. As long as more important financial matters aren’t being ignored, we believe people should buy as many shoes as they please regardless of their celebrity status.
